Alissa Green Solis, AMFT

San Francisco Bay Area, Napa & Sonoma Sex Therapist, Individual and Couples Counselor, Child Therapist, Associate Marriage & Family Therapist

San Francisco, North Bay and Napa Valley Individual & Couples Counselor, Child Therapist, and Family Therapist

I believe the bravest journeys are never taken alone. Therefore, I commend you for taking the first step to wellness and healing. Through your journey in therapy with me, I will act as your guide to help you recognize unhelpful patterns and thinking styles and gain awareness to change behaviors and handle stressful situations with the proper boundaries. My goal is to build a safe environment along with a compassionate and trusting relationship with each of my clients.

I have experience helping individuals, couples, families, groups and children. I have extensive experience and feel passionate about working with the foster care community and child welfare system. I am also passionate about couples work. I have worked with couples who were just curious about how therapy could be incorporated in their relationship to help strengthen their bond and communication, to couples who are on the edge of dissolution. I have worked extensively with couples who have experienced infidelity. Therapy can foster growth in relationships and couples may learn to continue to grow together or end their journey together respectfully and amicably. I have also been a co-facilitator for a mindfulness group as well as a men’s domestic violence group. I have training in counseling women who have been victims of domestic violence where I was able to assist them with patience, care, and empathy and identify their involvement in the cycle of violence. I have often found myself helping men who are in chronic pain manage their pain through mindfulness based practices. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and psychosis. I also consider myself an ally for the LGBTQ community and wrote my Master’s Thesis on same-sex couple’s counseling.

I will concentrate on easing each of my client’s personal growth through differentiating his/her/their journey using an eclectic mix of modalities founded with a humanistic approach with emphasis on attachment. I will often draw from Mindfulness Based,Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I believe being able to witness growth and promote healing is the essence of human nature and the reason I was drawn to this profession. I look forward to beginning this journey with you.

The purpose of my Master’s thesis is to teach therapists during a one-day workshop how to keep their same-sex clients engaged. Therapist’s will learn to feel competent in treating them as well as working on the therapist’s own issues regarding same-sex relationships to recognize any biases that may affect their ability to counsel same-sex couples. The significance of this project deals with increasing therapists’ competence in counseling same-sex couples so the therapist and the clients will feel comfortable exploring, which promotes client welfare.

Clinical Therapist at Child Haven, Inc.

Child Haven believes in early intervention, education, and targeted professional services to help the psychological wounds of children heal and strengthens families. The agency’s clinical philosophy is that a child cannot be served optimally in isolation of his or her family environment, as the most effective progress is seen when the needs of the entire family are considered in the treatment goals of the child and adolescent.  Child Haven firmly believes that by incorporating the families of traumatized children into treatment, the child’s healing process has more immediate results and is fortified ensuring greater long-term benefits.
